Till this day, it's hard that this group came from the Bay because of the oversaturation of Hyphy, but they did. and they shouted it out thoughout the entire album. When hearing the music that has come out of the Bay during the last 5 yrs, this album seems like a different MILLINEUM! (well actually...) This was definitely a good time in Hip Hop in my opinion...The Wake Up Show, Chat Rooms, every song had a Sample, Urban Video Shoots w/ everyone dressing in layers...anyway. Please listen to the B.U.M.S. album and reminisce, or learn about some classic Hip Hop that Oakland has produced. Either way, its all good. (I've lived in the Bay for 10 years, and I STILL haven't heard anything about the B.U.M.S. whereabouts...help, anyone? btw, I AM familiar with Joe Quixx's whereabouts. He was the Producer for the group, and also the DJ for The Wake Up Show. BIG UP to Mr. Quixx, and my boy Soul Profess informed me that SF's own DJ Pos Red used to DJ for them. IT'S THE EMCEES i don't know about...)
ALSO, I would like to note that D-Wyze's and E-Vocalist's verses on 'Elevation' are two of the best verses in one song that Hip Hop has Produced.

This was by no means her biggest hit, but this was one of my Favorite Queen Latifah songs (this one, and her tribute to New Jersey). I woke up so many times with this song in my head, because of the classic hook. I think it's one of the best hooks Hip Hop has ever heard! It's relavent to everyone, and it gets ingrained in your mental. Everyone talks about when's Lauren gonna start rhymin, but DAMN! WHY WON'T SOMEONE SAY THE SAME ABOUT DANA OWENS!? She was one of the best emcees to bless the mic...not FEMALE emcees, but EMCEES...this is like another life for her, and it's people like her that we need to save what they help cultivate.

THe 2008 grammy's was the first award show that I've seen more than half an hour of in the last 10 years easily, and I think this was a good one to see. The two things that I think will definitely be remembered is Kanye West tellin the production crew to silence the music (which you gotta appreciate no matter WHAT type of music you listen to), and Nas wearing the shirt with the word 'Nigger' across his chest.
First off, I was (and still am) shocked at the amount of attention nd response to Nas' last album 'Hip Hop is Dead'. I thought the title was a bold statement, but I never thought I'd see rappers taking the Album title personaly, the explosion of Hip Hop Properganda T-Shirts, countless 'Hip Hop Ain't Dead' titled Mixtapes etc. But I think Nas' new title transends the boundaries of Hip Hop. His interview with this blond haired, blue eyed reporter, she asked him about it, and as I expected, Nas defended his stance. He uses the word Nigger (not to be confused with the equaly offensive to some, not as abrasive to most spelling or pronunciation 'Nigga') as a symbolic reference to all the oppresion that people of all races face, all over the world, and the eplanation is given to the reporter on live television with no hesitation. The word is so powerful, He even equates the word Nigger to the meaningless war in Iraq, a topic which takes a back seat in this instance. When Nas includes EVERYONE in his list of people who have faced discrimination, "Even Me and You" he tells this bubbly, hot-topic, inside-scoop, reporter, she literally freezes...and doesn't say anything for a good 3 seconds....and she doens't know WHAT to say. I wonder what she was thinking about in those couple seconds. 'Did he just call me a Nigger?' 'I'm not a Nigger, am I?' 'I thought only Black people could be Niggers...' 'Why am I included in this plight?' 'Should I ask a follow up Question?' What she did, which is dodge the topic completely, was most likely applauded by her co-workers and peers. 'Great professionalism.' 'Way to keep your composure.' But that's unknown. Nas did not only explain the title of his shirt, but he also was able to get in a few jabs at the president as well. I bet CNN wish they didn't run into Nas that night! CNN, who probably puts Nas in the same box as 50 Cent, The Ying Yang Twins, and Missy Elliot, probably expected a much less informative two minute interview from Nas, or they knew who they were fuckin with, and felt like they were forced to do the interview because he was nominated. Regardless, the reporter probably took a leave of absence after the ceremony!
The fact of the matter is that I think its great that Nas is tackling a topic that has been an epidemic in not only the Black community, but in every Urban and Suburban community across the country. I think it is also noteworthy that Nas is touching on this topic on musics biggest stage. He could have just as easily done this at the Source Awards, or the Vibe Awards, or the MTV Music Awards, but he wanted EVERYONE to see it...from Bluegrass, to Gospel, from CNN, to BET...Everyone. And truthfully, if I'd like to hear anyone talk about the word Nigger, have an album titled Nigger, or be the voice of the Hip Hop community regarding the word Nigger, it would be Nas. Not Jay-Z, not Lil' Wayne, not Kanye West, but Nas.
I'd like to hear Joan Rivers comment on THAT 'ensemble'!

One of the tightest, forgotten beats in Hip Hop. I wasn't a big Onyx fan, but I can definitely appreciate their contribution to Hip Hop. they paved the way for anyone who shouted and literally spat on a mic. They're the reason you need a pop screen for recording! I don't thing they get credit for paving the way for a lot of the artists that profited for yellin while rappin, but they got a loyal fan base (especially after readin the youtube comments. I really like how Dead Prez remade the song on their Mixtape. In all honesty, I was expecting a lil better, but you know, it was still fresh.
You listen to this song now, and Yeah, the beat is a lil repetitive, and the video is on some typical Mobb Deep shit...but I dunno, It just stuck with me throughout High School. I think it was he b/w video, and the 'top o' the project roof' shot was always cool.
The thing I love about this song, and that era, is that people took the time to make a censored version of the song, and then they had an explicit version that had different lyrics, and the emcee could do this and still maintain the same train of thought. Nowadays, cats jus hit the booth, swear all over the record, and then jus have dead air through half the verse. When I hear that i think 'I guess what he/she was tryin to say wasn't that important'. I guess the sound effect censors are cool if your part of Wu-Tang (swingin swords, etc.) but I prefer a new version to make it seamless. Peep the video, then Download the song.

Thanks to everyone who Downloaded, or is going to Download my newest mix! I wanted to make a point w/ this mix, to prove that there is STILL some GOOD HIP HOP out there, I mean NEW shit that DOESN'T make people say "this sounds like some '93 type shit"....and I don't wanna spark up the whole 'Hip Hop is Dead' controversy, but I want to recognize GOOD Hip Hop while it's still current, instead of not appreciating it when it's out then calling it classic later. Don't get me wrong, there is TONS of wack ass shit out there, but the way true Hip Hop is, and always HAS been, is that it doesn't come to your doorstep. You have to go out and look for it....UNTIL NOW! With my NEW 2007 MIXTAPE!! But seriously, I wanted to highlight good music, and artists, and producers, and songs that made a mark in 'o7. I may have forgot, or omitted your favorite song, or artist, but forgive me. I'm only human, and a CD is only 80 minutes. I REALLY wanted to host this CD, but I couldn't find my mic chord. I know that may dissapoint a small number of you, (a VERY small number), but for most it's a blessing. Enjoy the mix while the link is still alive, and please post feedback!

OK, It seems like sombody forgot to meantion to the Seahaws that a football game is longer than 3 minutes. I've never seen a team jump all over another team so quickly, and then get their asses drgged all over the field in exchange. I knew it was gonna be an upfield battle from jumpstreet, but I didnt think it was gonna end up like THAT. When that snow atarted fallin in that 2nd Half, I knew they were done for...Thats when you need a Running Back! Ahhh, I remember once upon a time when the Seahawks had one of those...and the Ironic thing is that Chris Berman always plays that clip with S. Alexander saying 'Cmon Seattle, C'mon..." You need to bring YOUR ass on!!
I gotta give the Chargers props, and the Cowboys Choked, and the Pats took the other teams best shot, and came back to win.
I probably the person most sick of hearing about Favre and Brady, but man, those guys were amazing this past weekend. Brady throwin 92% or somethin like that...thats INSANE! Eli should take notes on how to play in cold weather...AND BRADY IS FROM NORTHERN CALI! WHERE IT DOESNT SNOW! As much as I'm sick of hearin about him, I gotta tip my cap.
