3 Pieces - Vibes of Truth (1975)

This is a real gem that I obtained from my favorite (now defunct) blogs, and it's on a real funk/soul tip. I'm not too sure if this group ever put out anything else, so If anyone has any other works by these guys, please share!

I must note that Donald Byrd is listed in the credits.

Queen Latifah - New Jersey

One of the FRESHEST dedication to an Emcees respective home town is this joint by Queen Latifah. Her ode to New Jersey is one that I've always felt, and it still had as timeless feel. The bass line is rediculous, and the Queen definitely blesses the beat.

The Connection to the last post...this song, too was featured on the New Jersey Drive soundtrack. and once again, the old school picture had to be posted. (and BELIEVE ME, I had to DIIIIG for this one!)

Outkast - Benz or Beamer

I'm on that Outkast hype now.
One of the Greatest groups...not Hip Hop groups,
but groups of All Time.

...and here's one of their best songs,
'Benz or Beamer' off the New Jersey Drive soundtrack.
As great as this song is, that's how terrible the movie was.

douwannabenzorabeama

This is a pretty cutty video,
but it introduced the bankhead bounce to the world.

1 Question: Does anyone know where that sample is from?
(the line in the hook that says "Do you want a benz or a beamer?)

Outkast - Phobia

This one requires a lil background story. So me, Wonway, and Tomas were watchin a 'Black'buster on BET (I'm serious, that's what they call it) and the carefully selected movie was the 'Brilliant' workings of John Singleton's Higher Learning. The thing about Singleton's movies is that they have a shelf life of about 3 years, and since this one came out almost 15 years ago, it's now moved into the realm of comedy. Anyway, about 5 minutes into the movie, they played an Outkast track that I've NEVER heard of or never even known about. I was a Hip Hop sponge back then, and I'm surprised that that song slipped through the cracks. The next thing I did after I heard this cut in the movie is ripped the song from the web, and here it is for yall. If it slipped through your vaults as well, here it goes.

(I had to find the Ol School Outkast pic since this was '95.)

Phat Kat - Dedication to the Suckas 12" (Prod. by Jay Dee)

I don't even need to put an audio sample of this one. If you're a Jay Dee fan, and if you haven't heard this 12", you need to download this immediately. This is some of Mr. Yancey's best work. I MAY even put these 3 Jay Dee beats on my top 25 Jay Dee beats. I don't believe these songs were on the first Phat Kat LP, so that makes it even more special. If you DO know what this is...then you must feel what I'm sayin.

O, I forgot to meantion...this 12" also shows off Jay Dee's Scratchin skills, which pretty much makes the song in my opinion. I can't think of a Jay Dee song, or Dilla song that has as much scratchin as 'Dedication...' and 'Don't Nobody...'. It gives you even more respect for Jay Dee (If that was possible).

a MUST HAVE.

A Tribe Called Quest - Stressed Out Remix 12"

When you think about this collaboration, it's pretty historic:
Tribe, Raphael Saadiq, Consequence, Faith Evans, and Dilla.
The B-Side contained my favorite songs on the album...Jam and Word Play ALONG WITH the Instrumentals. I know Inst aren't what they used to be for a DJ, but these are two must haves. The Stressed Out Remix is WAAAY better than the Original imo.
